Maritime Pine OPC image

Oligoproanthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins, a combination of antioxidants with multiple benefits.

Formula based on French maritime pine OPC extract from the Oligopin® brand, standardized to 96% total antioxidant polyphenols and a minimum of 67% OPCs, and concentrated maritime pine extract (Pinus Pinaster) with a very high content (95%) of antioxidants from the same family, proanthocyanidins.

Maritime pine contains exceptional natural substances: proanthocyanidins, highly valuable and versatile antioxidants, and oligoproanthocyanidin (OPC), both belonging to the flavonoid family, antioxidants known for their protective properties on our cardiovascular system. Their antioxidant qualities are also incredibly powerful, more than 30 times superior to vitamin C and vitamin E, making them exceptional cellular protectors.

Indeed, antioxidants play a primordial role. By inhibiting the oxidation of our cells and neutralizing free radicals, they slow down the wear and aging processes of our organs, skin, cartilage, circulatory and nervous systems.

Proanthocyanidins, including OPCs, bind with collagen, an essential protein for the cohesion of our cellular tissues for the health and maintenance of all our connective tissues (bone and adipose tissues, cartilage, skin, tendons, ligaments, blood tissue, arteries, etc.). Connective tissues support and protect our tissues and organs and ensure the passage of numerous substances between the blood and these tissues. As seats of the cells of our immune system (lymphocytes, macrophages, etc.), they play a major role in inflammatory reactions and healing processes. These effects make proanthocyanidins and OPCs precious compounds for the cardiovascular system.

Maritime Pine OPC Djform, for whom? For what?

Numerous studies and tests carried out in recent years on maritime pine extract highlight its contribution in:

  • Protection of our circulatory system: the antioxidants contained in OPCs and proanthocyanidins help reduce venous insufficiency and its effects (varicose veins, heavy legs, etc.), and make it an excellent support, particularly for the elderly. Thanks to its beneficial action on blood circulation and microcirculation, it is highly recommended for air travel and working in a seated position. It is also a good companion for athletes (oxygenation, recovery, tissue regeneration, reduction of free radical production, which increase during intense physical activities).
  • Eye wellness: antioxidants are necessary for us to fight against oxidative stress, protecting our cells, especially those of the eyes. Healthy cells are a bulwark against degeneration, particularly related to exposure to blue light*.
*Source: See notably this article by INSERM on antioxidants and their benefits for our eyes: Reducing the risk of AMD
  • Skin protection and beauty: antioxidants participate in the fight against oxidative stress which leads to the premature aging of our cells. They also constitute a support for our skin in case of exposure to UV rays and sunlight, although they do not replace the application of sunscreen.

The quality of our skin is a good indicator of our antioxidant needs. It is the reflection of the state of our organs, tissues, and various systems. A deficiency is notably recognized by a premature loss of elasticity, firmness, or radiance, and the appearance of early fine lines and wrinkles.

Djform quality:

Our product is a combination of two high-quality extracts, maritime pine standardized to 95% proanthocyanidins and Landes maritime pine OPC extracted from high-quality bark from the French brand Oligopin®.

The advanced manufacturing process of the latter allows an optimal concentration of Oligoproanthocyanidin (OPC), over 67%, making it one of the most purified pine bark extracts on the market.

Why did we choose pullulan capsules for our Djform products?

The "HPMC vegetable capsule" is only vegetable in name! Behind a marketing facade, the HPMC vegetable capsule actually contains chemical residues. To always offer you the most qualitative products possible, DJFORM uses pullulan capsules, suitable for vegetarian, plant-based, and vegan diets. Instead of indigestible wood cellulose for HPMC-type vegetable capsules, pullulan capsules are food products derived from sugar cane that our bodies are able to digest.

To find out more - Free radicals, oxidative stress, and antioxidants: what exactly are they?

Our cells are true little energy power plants. Cellular metabolism, thanks to the oxidation-reduction mechanism, leads to an electron transfer between the oxygen molecules we breathe and the glucose molecules or certain fatty acids from our diet (respectively carbohydrates and lipids). By capturing electron pairs from them, oxygen allows the transformation of these nutrients into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), cellular fuel, in other words, the energy necessary for the normal functioning of our body.

All energy production cannot be 100% optimal and inevitably produces waste. Indeed, during cellular oxidation-reduction processes, a percentage of these exchanges does not happen as it should, and a certain number of oxygen molecules end up with an odd number of electrons. These reactive and unstable derivatives of oxygen are called free radicals. Thus, the oxygen necessary for the life of our organism can also become its enemy and accelerate its wear.

Since any unstable element seeks to balance itself, free radicals draw the electron they lack from their environment. They then destabilize the cells, blood cells, proteins, or even microbes they encounter. Admittedly, this natural process is advantageous for our immune defenses, but an excess of free radicals causes chain disorders that directly affect our health.

Produced in small quantities, free radicals are well managed by our body thanks to the production of antioxidants. The antioxidants present in our body, mostly coming from an appropriate diet rich in fruits and vegetables, are molecules that neutralize free radicals and allow a balance between the two. In this case, they are beneficial for our health: they ensure the cleansing of our body by eliminating old or defective cells. They also intervene in the antibacterial, microbial, and viral fight and participate in proper immune functioning.

However, our new lifestyles are at the origin of an excess production of free radicals, under the effect of numerous factors:

  • external: water and air pollution, tobacco smoke, sun UV rays, radiation, etc.;
  • internal: medications, alcohol, tobacco, industrial food;
  • lifestyle: sleep deficit, excess or lack of physical exercise, overwork, etc.;
  • stressful environment: overwork, stress, anxiety, negative emotional states.

Produced in too large quantities, free radicals cause what is called oxidative stress or oxidative strain. Our cells (including the DNA present within them) oxidize, deteriorate, and die. If our body does not have enough antioxidants acting as shields against free radicals, oxidative stress leads to the premature aging of our cells and increases health risks. Antioxidants, capable of reducing the oxidation process of our cells by free radicals, are essential to protect us from oxidative stress and its devastating effects on the health of our cells, organs, and skin.
